Overview

Oldcrick was founded durring the late 14th century in winter of the year 1258, by Brîbêj Fyêyèj Beer Kersey Balderson. The establishment of Oldcrick was somewhat plagued by a lack of willing colonists, leading to Brîbêj Fyêyèj Beer Kersey Balderson electing to pay people to resettle in Oldcrick.

Oldcrick was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Oldcrick is no diffrent. The village's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Oldcrick is buildings are arranged arrounded a highly ordered system of broad cobblestone streets which form triangular paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The village sits behind an impressive looking clay brick wall. The wall is notable for querried stone blocks being used to renforce the clay bricks in the expected manner and locations. While the wall was built to the exact specifications of modern fortifications, one has to wonder why the money invested into creating such a well fortified wall wasnt spent on a less impressive looking wall crated from sturdier materials. Oldcrick's walls would endure a brief bombardment, but only from light siege weapons. It seems more likly the village's walls were not designed with defence in mind but rather lending the town a certain air with visitors. The boondoggle-of-a-fortified wall have not been wellmaintained over the years, and while functional are in dire need of some loving care and perhapse light renovation.

The village shows nothing out of the ordinary, at first glance. Then you start to notice all the small things. Each window has seven iron nails pounded into the sill. Every door has a sprig of holly overhead. Every well is branded with purity seals and runes to ward the contents. Everyone is carrying a small charm for safety or fortune, be it a rabbit’s foot, a horseshoe, or other little totems.

Oldcrick has an animal control department which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the control, impoundment, and disposition of animals.

Oldcrick has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Oldcrick has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Oldcrick has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Oldcrick's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Oldcrick has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

The locals have cut a deal with some unspeakable entity, trading some form of tribute (benign of horrific) in exchange for the being’s forbearance or assistance. Outsiders may be ignorant of the bargain, or they may know that the community is in thrall but be too fearful of its master to take action against them. The creature likely serves as a protector as well as a tyrant, so the locals may be content with the deal even if it doesn’t offer any further inducement or aid.

Oldcrick's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is best known for its functional shapes, abstract shapes used sparingly for decor, simple color schemes, holistic design, and basic industrial materials. Its simple designs were created to be beautiful, functional, and mass-producible. The style used little to no embellishment or ornamentation, instead drawing attention to the streamlined design, such as flat roofs to create a simple, geometric look. The simplicity masks the style's nearly sinister functionality, as every last feature is designed to guide the people living in the building in how to make the most efficient use of the structure.

In Oldcrick grains of dust blow into perfectly neat rows.

The Living Topiary near Oldcrick are known to be quite timid.

Oldcrick's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in autumn and involves orgies to channel Transmutation energies of tier 3 via singing.
